For as long as I can remember I wanted to dive. I'm from the generation raised on Sea Hunt and Jacques Cousteau. From fourth grade through high school, I read every diving book in the school library. One of the more memorable was We Come from the Sea, biologist Hans Hass’ study of the Great Barrier Reef.
When I
received my SCUBA certification, I was captivated by the beauty and
diversity of the first tropical reefs I visited. I wanted to capture that beauty
for my own enjoyment and for the enjoyment of those who cannot visit the reef
for themselves. The transition from diver to underwater photographer was inevitable.
I live on the Southeast Florida coast, and I dive here every chance I get. My wife Lynn and I, along with our good friend Mark, have studied and photographed the reefs and wrecks from West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale. We do most of our local diving on a stunning reef line from Boynton Beach to Delray Beach. We also frequent the Upper Florida Keys, with its famous wrecks and pristine reefs.
When time allows, we like to get away for some “blue water” diving. Those trips have taken
us to several locations in the Bahamas including the alluring blue holes at the Cay Sal
Bank, the Exuma Cays, and the Northwest Bahamas area that includes Cat Cay, Port
Lucaya and Bimini. We have also visited the Cayman Islands and the spectacular
Bloody Bay Wall. In April, 2007, Mark and I spent a week diving on the famous
“Nuclear Fleet,” at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands.
